Fit description: Regular riding-jacket fit with room for light layering and an action back for freedom of movement
The RJ-1 Rider Jacket Tumbleweed from Freenote Cloth is one of the brand’s original designs, combining elements of a classic ranch jacket and riding jacket. The outer is made from rugged 10 oz Martexin waxed canvas, offering protection from wind and light rain while developing a distinctive patina as the waxed surface creases, rubs and softens with wear.
Movement is a major part of the design. Pleats at the front expand as you move, while Freenote’s signature action back uses shoulder gussets and hidden elastic bands to provide additional mobility without making the jacket excessively loose. The body is lined with a Southwestern-patterned Japanese fabric, while the sleeves use a smooth Japanese satin lining that makes the jacket easy to put on over other layers.
Details include custom metal hardware made in Kentucky, an SB Tanning Co. leather patch, 1/8-inch double-needle stitching and an internal pocket. The warm Tumbleweed colour works particularly well with the waxed canvas, becoming richer and more varied as the jacket is worn.
