The HBT Special Jacket (Lot BR15887) from Buzz Rickson’s is a detailed reproduction of U.S. Army herringbone twill jackets developed during the early 1940s. Originally designed for both combat use and as protective garments against gas exposure, these jackets evolved through several iterations between 1941 and 1943.

This “Special” model reflects the later pattern, featuring key updates such as larger gusseted chest pockets, a simplified sleeve construction, and a gas flap behind the front placket to improve protection. A metal button at the underside of the collar was also added to accommodate a detachable hood — all part of enhancing the garment’s functionality in the field.

The fabric is a classic olive drab herringbone twill, chosen for its durability and natural camouflage properties even in a single colour. The jacket is finished with black-painted 13-star metal buttons, and the spacing between the top buttons allows the collar to open into a wide lapel-like shape, giving it a distinct military appearance.

A historically rich piece that balances functionality and strong visual character, faithfully reproduced with Buzz Rickson’s attention to detail.
