Where it’s made: Knitted in Wakayama, sewn and dyed in Kyoto, Japan
What it’s made from: 100% Japanese cotton from Sasayama, Hyogo – 16oz slub yarn jersey (#10 x #20)
Fit description: Regular fit with a sturdy, structured hand feel
The Kuroma edition of Samurai’s heavyweight crew neck takes the same 16oz jersey as their Natural ‘Kinari’ tee—woven from uneven #10 yarn inspired by their 17oz “Zero” denim—and adds a unique, eco-friendly dyeing process.
Sasayama, the birthplace of the cotton used in these tees, is also known for its local black soybean harvest. Samurai has ingeniously used the discarded juice from black bean production as a natural dye, producing an organic, earthy tone unlike anything you’ll find in mass-made garments. This approach not only gives the fabric its distinctive deep hue but also reduces waste and honours traditional Japanese agricultural practices.
The tee is constructed with three-needle binder neck seams for durability, sewn with a 1960s Union Special 36200 flat seamer to ensure a smooth, comfortable interior finish.
