Where it’s made: Cut, sewn, and dyed in Kojima, Japan
What it’s made from: Unsanforized, rope-dyed denim made from four custom yarn types
Fit description: Boxy 1930s-inspired chore coat fit with stand collar and functional details
Inspired by a rare 1930s Duck Head work jacket, the Cat Head Jacket is TCB’s take on the golden age of chore coats—with every detail researched, rebuilt, and reproduced down to the last stitch. The silhouette is short and boxy, with a straight front placket, generous chest pockets, and a stand collar secured by a chainstitched neckband—just like the original. For this detail alone, a special attachment had to be borrowed from fellow repro maker Workers to recreate it on an original Union Special 51800G waistband machine.
The jacket features three types of buttons (placket, sleeve, chest dot), green bar tacks and buttonholes that will fade over time, and playful branding nodding to early American mascots—this time swapping the Duck for a Cat. The cat head tag and the silly-serious button design make this jacket feel like a modern heritage collectible.
The fabric:
Woven exclusively for this jacket, the denim is rope-dyed and completely untreated—no anti-twist, no sanforizing, no singeing. The yarns are a mix of:
Warps: alternating #8 straight and #9 slubby yarns
Wefts: alternating #12 neppy and irregular yarns, dyed grey for a vintage tone
The result is a neppy, dry-hand denim full of character and fade potential, mirroring the unrefined, utilitarian textiles of 1930s America.
A tribute to real-deal workwear, built with Japanese expertise and a designer’s eye for the little things.
